Profile
I am a Lecturer in Psychology and a Chartered Psychologist with interests in health-related behaviour change. My PhD, from the University of Manchester, investigated which Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs) are associated with changes in post-intervervention and maintained changes in self-efficacy for physical activity in adults through a systematic review with meta-analysis. I have continued to use systematic review and meta-analysis methods to synthesis evidence on the effectiveness of complex behaviour change interventions.
I was previously a Research Associate at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Behavioural Science Policy Research Unit at Newcastle University where I worked with policymakers, such as the Department of Health and Social Care, to provide them with behavioural advice on a range of topics, including vaccination uptake, demand/expectations in healthcare systems, and inequalities in maternity care.
Prior to joining the University of Leeds, I was a Lecturer in Health Psychology at the School of Psychology, Newcastle University, where I contributed to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Research interests
I am a mixed-methods researcher and my key research interests include:
- Changing health-related behaviours in different populations, and how different models of care (such as Shared Medical Appointments) could support behaviour change.
- Healthcare utilisation – how do people choose the most appropriate health services for their health needs?
- Public health messaging.
Spanning across all these areas, I am interested in how we can apply theories and models of behaviour and behaviour change to understand, explain, and predict behaviour.
