Profile
I am a Research Fellow in Appetite Research in the School of Psychology at the University of Leeds, with expertise in appetite, eating behaviours, feeding practices and childhood obesity research. My primary research interests are in psychosocial, environmental and socioeconomic determinants of food choice and health outcomes.
I obtained a first class honours degree in Nutrition and Public Health from the University of Huddersfield before moving to the University of Leeds to complete an MSc in Health Psychology and an MA in Social Research. After graduating, I was awarded an ESRC funded Advanced Quantative Methods Studentship and went on to undertake my PhD under the supervision of Dr Alison Fildes, Dr Clare Llewellyn, Dr Andrea Smith, Dr Louise Dye and Dr Clare Lawton, examining the Obesogenic Home Environment, Appetite and Weight in Childhood, using data from the Gemini twin birth cohort. After completing my PhD, I joined the Obesity Research Group within the Department of Behavioural Science and Health at University College London (UCL). I worked as a Research Fellow in Eating Behaviours on the a range of large scale multidisciplinary research projects including: the APPETItE project (Appetite in Preschoolers: Producing Evidence for Tailoring Interventions Effectively), the Family Food Experience Study-London, the Canadian Institute for Health Research and MQ Mental Health: Appetite, Parental feeding practices & Eating Disorders project.
I am also a core member of the Gemini study, a large population-based birth cohort of twins which aims to advance understanding of the genetic and environmental influences on appetite and growth. I have played a key role in several rounds of data collection and provide the cohort with data management and statistical expertise.
