ICA Case Studies
Hear from some recent participants in the pathway.
Anna Southworth - ICA Internship
My main achievement whilst partaking in the NIHR/HEE ICA Internship was publishing my first piece of research, the programme provided me with the time, skills and support to facilitate this. I have since completed my MSc in Radiotherapy and Oncology, for myself, I believe this was greatly enhanced through my NIHR/HEE ICA Internship award as I developed a number of skills during the award that allowed me to be better prepared for the completion of an MSc dissertation.View Profile
Adam Galloway - Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship
The PCAF has also allowed me to take part in a lot of academic networking at meetings and conferences which are fantastic events for meeting clinical academics who are on the same pathway but at varying stages.View Profile
Laurie Cave - Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship
I have always been interested in research and how it informs evidence-based practice. In 2016-17, I took time out from my busy clinical role to complete a HEE/NIHR Masters in Clinical Research. This gave me formal and comprehensive research training and the opportunity to conduct in-depth independent research, from conception to dissemination.View Profile
Jane Freeman - Clinical Lectureship
The flexibility and bespoke nature of the ICA scheme means that although I also have a busy home-life as a single parent to two children, I am still able to pursue my clinical academic career. I really enjoy mentoring other aspiring clinical academics at all levels, and hopefully bringing the same enthusiasm and support that I received from the ICA community in Leeds to their aspirations and plans.View Profile
John Gierula - Advanced Fellowship
The fantastic professional network and friendships that I have developed at the University of Leeds and LTHT, have undoubtedly contributed to the success I have experienced in my clinical academic career so far. Teamwork is vitally important in the NIHR application process, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the help I have so far from my colleagues and friends at the University of Leeds and LTHT.View Profile
