- Course: MSc Molecular Medicine
The knowledge that I gained during the MSc in Molecular Medicine has become increasingly relevant in clinical practice.
I chose to study at the University of Leeds because of its outstanding international reputation for academic excellence. A vibrant and supportive community surrounds the university, several alumni I spoke to spoke highly of their exceptional educational and social experience at Leeds, and this only reinforced my decision to study Leeds.
I chose the MSc in Molecular Medicine because of my interest in academic research, particularly in genetics, immunology and oncology. This particular course stood out to me due to its comprehensive curriculum, which includes a six-month research project and opportunities to learn from world-class academics leading in their respective fields. It provided a fantastic balance of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. My undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences provided the foundation for me to go onto study Molecular Medicine.
The highlight of the programme for me was undoubtedly the research project, which I chose to undertake in bioinformatics. This experience allowed me to deeply engage with a focused area of research, developing my independence, expanding my knowledge, and providing invaluable hands-on experience.
The course was very well-structured, blending lectures, seminars and practical sessions, as well allowing us to learn about emerging technologies and their applications before embarking on the research project. Reflecting on the programme, I am impressed at how much I was exposed to, and how much I learned within that time. The staff at Leeds were incredibly supportive during my studies, their understanding and consideration when I was going through challenging periods was invaluable.
I currently work as a doctor in the NHS, and the knowledge that I gained during the MSc in Molecular Medicine has become increasingly relevant in clinical practice. It has enhanced my understanding in key areas and will undoubtedly support my ambitions to engage in research in the future.
I would highly recommend studying at Leeds. The university offers an exceptional learning and social environment, and the MSc provides a solid foundation for future advancements in the field of molecular medicine. Leeds is a thriving, dynamic city with great restaurants, bars and fun and interesting places to visit. I particularly enjoyed its proximity to the Yorkshire Dales, which is the perfect place to go rambling and enjoy nature.
