I chose to study diagnostic imaging at the University of Leeds because of the excellent reputation of the course and the convenience of my placement. I found the course content very interesting and completely relevant for my new role as a sonographer.
The university study days and placement dates worked well around my job and were both very beneficial to help me learn new skills.
The highlight was that the course enabled me to gain new skills which has put me on a new career path. It was challenging to complete the course with having not studied for 15 years and juggling this with family commitments. But I was pleased to finish the course in the specified time line and demonstrated to my children that it is possible to push yourself further.
The lecturers were very good and knowledgeable; I experienced a variety of on-placement training; and the IT facilities available at Leeds really enhanced my learning, especially the online library resources. Whilst on the course I also took on a student mentor role which I found very informative and interesting.
As part of my postgraduate diploma I completed a research project on ultrasound training for obstetrics, gynaecology and general medicine. Doing a research project has been very beneficial to support my new career path and new role in sonography.
