Why did you choose the School of Psychology at the University of Leeds?
Due to the Russell Group status of the University, I knew the research standard at Leeds was going to be high which peaked my interest. On the open day there was a focus on research and getting students highly involved in everything which seemed a more personal approach compared to other university open days I had attended.

Why did you choose your course? Why is it important for you to be studying it?
Having studied Psychology at A-Level, the subject content allowed me great insight into the role of research which led to my interest in a career in the field. I enjoyed every single Psychology lesson which is why I thought I should go on to study Psychology at a higher level to continue this enjoyment.

What were you doing before you started studying here?
I attended my local sixth form where I studied Psychology, Biology, Geography and Business.

What has been the highlight of the programme/course?
In first and second year students have the chance to be involved in higher level students projects which allows an insight into the research conducted at Leeds. This was great to experience such a variety of different research which influenced my research project later down the line.

Did any particular modules or projects impress you?
The health module in third year was great. Run by Daryl O’Connor, who is highly influential in the field, it allowed a unique insight into his perspectives on the subject and further developed my interest in the field. This led me to complete the health masters at Leeds.

What support have the tutors and other staff given you?
We have personal tutors at Leeds who students can email/set up meetings with at any time about anything. This was very useful when trying to adapt to the university environment. Lecturers have anonymous discussion boards for each lecture, making it easier to ask any questions so everyone has an understanding of lesson content.

How do you plan to use what you have learned here?  How will doing the course benefit you / the organisation you work in?
I would hopefully like a career in the research aspect of psychology as I have enjoyed completing my own research projects and participating in other students'. The skills I have developed through the yearly research skills modules at Leeds will hopefully allow me to do this and the experience of using SPSS (a type of computer software) on a weekly basis.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
Ideally I would like a career in psychology research development as I have enjoyed running my own research projects and developing new ideas.

What would you say to someone thinking of coming to study here?
Do it! Leeds offers a high standard Psychology course whilst also being a very student-friendly and sociable place to live! The best of both worlds.
