Dr Russell Hutter

Profile

Russell graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology in 1999. He followed this with an MSc in Psychological Research Methods in 2000 and a Research Assistantship in 2001 with Professor Tim Perfect. He then undertook a PhD at the University of Birmingham under the supervision of Dr Richard Crisp and graduated in 2005. In 2005 Russell was also awarded an ESRC one year postdoctoral fellowship under the supervision of Professor Glyn Humphreys. In December 2005 Russell was appointed a fixed term lectureship at the University of Reading before joining the School of Psychology at Leeds as a Lecturer in May 2007 and more recently became Associate Professor in Social Psychology.

Research interests

My research centers on social cognition. Social category conjunction, representation, inhibition and executive function are often key components in forming impressions of others. For example, how do we perceive and cognitively represent incongruent conjunctions. I am also interested in the processes driving stereotype threat effects, the role of pairing incongruent messages and measures in reducing alcohol consumption, and attitudes towards health behaviours.
