Research interests

I am interested in all aspects of the interface between cancer and primary care/general practice

Most of my work focuses on diagnostics (including the interpretation of symptoms and the use of tests). However, I am also interested in cancer awareness, screening, and living with and beyond cancer. I am also interested in the application of cancer diagnostics and treatment in low-resource settings.

I currently have seven PhD students either as primary or secondary supervisors. The broad topics that these students are working in are:

  • How smoking affects help-seeking for potential lung cancer symptoms
  • Lay referral in cancer
  • Intermittent versus continuous anti-androgen therapy in prostate cancer
  • Development of a risk assessment tool for head and neck cancer
  • Point of care tests for cancer in general practice
  • Use of imaging for suspected lung cancer
  • Patient decision aids in lung cancer screening
