Changing Lives - the MA in Social Work

Our MA Social work is HCPC accredited and mixes innovative learning and stimulating placements to create a rich and immersive degree with excellent employability.

At Leeds we have a reputation for developing outstanding and highly employable Social workers and we need graduates with experience and knowledge of social care, who want to make a career change and help change lives.

Our Social work team comprises active practitioners, innovative academics and experienced professionals to create a rewarding and challenging degree experience. Our smaller tutor groups enable our students to have a more engaged and immersive theoretical learning relationship to create insightful and courageous professionals.

At Leeds we use technology to give you a richer and broader Masters education. This means you will experience community practice and visit virtual scenarios within our school facilities to assist preparation and practice. Student can also access our renowned medical library and comprehensive online libraries.

MA students carry out a small piece of research in their second year for their dissertation and many have been published or led to further studies at PhD level. A recent example was a review of research into residential care for young people  which was published and attracted the interest of the Dept for Education.

Dr David Saltiel, Lecturer

The University is part of a Teaching Partnership with Leeds and Wakefield local authorities, created  to ensure universities and employers work closely together. Our students are guaranteed placements within these local authorities and we work closely with social workers in the two authorities who play a big part in helping to teach and support our students; many go on to work within these authorities.

We are recruiting now for a January start. This is a 2 year fast track, full-time course based at the University of Leeds with placements in the Leeds and Wakefield area. We currently have 14 bursaries available for students and bursaries are available for both years of the programme. Please click for course information.
