Careers and employability

We recognise the importance of securing your future career through your research degree and offer a dedicated and effective range of support during your time with us and beyond - both from our careers centre and from within the School.

Leeds for Life

Through Leeds for Life you'll receive one-to-one tutoring, helping you get all the experience and advice necessary when it comes to making the next step.

You'll also have access to our Leeds Network, a valuable resource made up of Leeds alumni who are ready to advise and support you as you move into your chosen career.

One of Leeds for Life's central objectives is to ensure that you stand out from the competition. Through the strong command of your subject, diverse enrichment opportunities and specialist guidance on offer, we aim to give you the edge as you advance from your research degree into the competitive field of work or further research.

The Early Careers Research Network

The Early Careers Researcher Network (ECRN) is a vibrant community of research staff, PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and academics.  The network provides a forum for research-active students and staff to engage in activities and discussions that develop their careers.

Recent sessions have addressed:

  • Maximising opportunities for patient and public involvement in your research
  • Widening your research networks and collaborations
  • Understanding the ingredients for a successful fellowship application
  • Using journal reviewer comments to develop your ideas and publications.

We meet once a month with a schedule of events to suit everyone. These include seminars led by established research academics through to lunches to help you form professional and social connections - a crucial part of careers development.
